Express Entry in 2026 is a category-driven system. General all-program draws are gone; instead, IRCC alternates between Canadian Experience Class (CEC) rounds, Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) rounds, and category-based rounds targeting French speakers, healthcare, trades and other priority groups. What the spring 2026 draws looked like
According to IRCC’s published rounds of invitations: CEC draws ranged from 2,000 to 6,000 invitations with CRS cut-offs between roughly 507 and 515. PNP-specific rounds were small (a few hundred invitations) with cut-offs of 710 to 802, high because provincial nominees carry a 600-point bonus. French-language proficiency rounds were among the largest, issuing 4,000 to 5,500 invitations at cut-offs between 393 and 419. Trades rounds invited 3,000 candidates around 477, a healthcare and social services round invited 4,000 at 467, a physicians round went as low as 169, and a senior managers round sat at 429.
What this means for your strategy
Three takeaways. First, French pays: strong French test results open the lowest cut-offs of any large category. Second, category eligibility matters more than raw CRS: a healthcare worker at 470 gets invited while a general candidate at 500 waits. Third, a provincial nomination is still the most powerful single lever: 600 points effectively guarantees an invitation, which is why the BC PNP remains central for candidates in British Columbia.
How to position yourself
Check whether your occupation falls in a current category, retake language tests where gains are realistic, claim every point your work history supports, and keep your profile accurate, errors discovered after an invitation can be treated as misrepresentation. A lawyer’s note
Draw patterns shift with government priorities, and chasing last quarter’s cut-off is a poor plan. What holds up is building the strongest verifiable profile across language, education, and skilled work, and having your evidence ready before the invitation arrives, not after.
